Show Notes: Successful Weight Loss Strategies part 1 and 2 with Dr. Christine Salter on Health Talk with Dr. Diane MD

Diet concept“It was a real rude awakening to look in the mirror and say ‘That’s me that I’ve been talking about.’” – Dr. Christine Salter

In this episode of Health Talk with Dr. Diane MD, Dr. Diane A Thompson speaks with Dr. Christine Salter, a family medicine physician who specializes in holistic medicine and obesity medicine. This is a two-part interview, and during part 1, Dr. Salter focuses on the basics of why people gain weight and why they find it hard to shed the extra pounds.

Unlike other doctors who practice obesity medicine, Dr. Salter was drawn to this specialty because she herself was obese. According to her, the reason people gain weight can’t be pinpointed down to just one reason – it’s a combination of factors. She suggests that we live in a world where the composition of food has changed, and that foods today tend to be higher in calories and loaded with more toxins. Dr. Salter also feels that our environment has become more toxic and stressful as well, and that all these factors contribute to our struggle with obesity.

Regarding effective weight loss strategies, she feels that a complete lifestyle change and a permanent mindset shift are important to success. She suggests that the temporary dieting mindset is one of the reasons many of us fail with our weight loss goals.

Part 1 of this interview tackles the basics of weight loss and part 2 goes into more details to give you the tools to successfully lose weight and keep it off. Part 2 covers topics such as energy balance, the role of hormones in weight loss, sleep deprivation, and specific tips to effectively lose weight and keep it off.
